Our First Time Cross-country Skiing
Hassell & I have decided to have as much fun as possible on our travels. So, while we are in snow country here in Montana we’ve added cross country skiing to our list.
We made the trek into town from the north hills and rented skis at Basecamp.
We had to get lunch at the Park Avenue Bakery.
We had Park Ave’s delicious homemade quiche.
We load up the skis. It always takes a minute to get stuff loaded into HillBilly Deluxe(our truck) because it’s a single cab dually with a flat bed. There is not much room. And, we still haven’t add a tote box on the bed to carry all the extra stuff like…groceries, laundry, skis, etc. lol
We decided to ski at the Bill Roberts Golf Course. All winter, as long as there is snow, the Last Chance Nordic Ski Club grooms the Nordic trails on MacDonald Pass and the golf course. They do a great job and the golf course was packed with skiers of all levels.
We think and even say out loud to each other, “Oh, this will be a piece of cake.”
We sorta glide on down the trail. I can’t keep up with Hassell.
He keeps asking, “Why can’t someone with such long legs keep up?”
I smile and keep my answer to myself.
Skate skiers fly by us and it looks so graceful and easy.
I don’t look graceful and I know this because Hassell keeps telling me I don’t.
Then the real fun begins as we get to our first downhill slope.
Hassell bails off the edge like he’s an Olympic level downhiller. I’m impressed and amazed.
He makes it to the bottom!
Where his skis go off the track
and, KABOOM, he flys into a snow bank superman style.
But, god love him he was fearless about it.
And, the falling continues from there.
I fall at least 5 times. Sometimes into positions that tell me I’m way more flexible than I thought I would be at 51.
And, we are sore as hell the next day.
We had the time of our lives. I can’t remember when we laughed so hard and had so much fun.
Can’t wait to do this again.
So the next adventure awaits…Downhill skiing… ut oh. 🙂
